And that’s a wrap!

About to mail off the final commission piece. Very happy. I’ve tried counting the characters a few times, but there are so many I keep losing count. I am at least in the 600’s, because after only going 1 inch across, all the way from top to bottom I was at 100…and the entire piece is 16″ x 20″. Everything from notebooks to corndogs to lasagna noodles to several lizard monsters…I think I have covered “stuff kids like”, which is what I would google during moments of mental blockage.

I will be posting pictures soon, but would like to let the person who commissioned this piece enjoy and share it with his children first before I post it all over the inter-web. Seems like the right thing to do.

One thing I especially enjoyed about this was that I was able to incorporate his children’s names into the piece. I really wanted to cater this to his kids, using imagery they would like (pizza and monsters was top of the list), and let them enjoy all the little details for years to come. I also wanted to place a little imagery that they might not understand, so that it would capture a generation of “lost” things, like floppy discs, VHS tapes, and the sunday newspaper. I figure by the time these kids are in their teens, those things will be as antiquated as the horse-drawn carriage is now. It may seem silly, but I kind of wanted to pay homage to things like newspapers and put them next to the new technology like an  iPad, with the two characters glaring at each other. Maybe a little incomprehensible to kids right now, but I hope they will appreciate it as they grow older and can notice new things every day.

Pictures soon!

And as always, if you are interested in any original art, big or small (and trust me, I can do small!), please just send me an email with some basic ideas and we can get started!
